Locked in the car

It gets hot this time of year in Edmond. It gets hot early and quick.

Especially inside a locked car. ... says Kid Three.

Last week I was in a hurry when I jumped out of the car. I opened the door, pressed the L button rather than the U button. Door locked. I knew immediately when the door shut Kid Three was in trouble. 38 seconds later tiny sweat beads adorned my favorite baby nose.

9-1-1, what is your emergency?

I locked my baby in the car. I'm in the driveway of a friend's house, about 1/2 mile from the fire department. Can someone help me quick? He's 21 months old.

We have an officer and a locksmith dispatched. He will be there in a minute. (or whenever he feels like it)

5 minutes. Kid Three is amused by the faces I'm making through the window.

10 minutes. I am sweating because it's hot on the outside of the car - but Kid Three is laughing at his brother playing peek-a-boo.

15 minutes. His hair is all wet and he looks sleepy.

Still no officer.

20 minutes. Kid Three begins to say "Juuuuuuuice" and pull at his seat belt.

No help has arrived. I kind of start to panic. Are they WALKING here?

22 minutes and the locksmith and the police finally show up and to liberate my baby from the '98 Ford Expe-sauna. (The Invisible me slapped both of them for taking so long, but that's beside the point.) The locksmith apologetically collects his $780/hour. I give the little refugee a drink and take him into the air conditioning. All better. Free. Safe.

Please make a note: If you get out of your car, get your keys. Playing this little 9-1-1 game is both frightening and expe-hen-sive. You've been warned.

Sorry Kid Three. My bad. It won't happen again.

Craig put Ryan in his carseat, threw the keys in the other seat, shut the door so he could go to the driver's side. Ryan hit the Lock button. Luckily it was winter so it was kind of funny, summer would not have been good.

Thank you for my Placemats they are gorgeous. Love them.

Just because I love you...I'm not going to call the authorities this time. However, now that I think about it...I might want to call the authorities NOW cause it will take them a while to get there!
I know you were in much more discomfort than kid #3!
Love ya!

Oh my God, please break the window. I am not kidding.

Fire Dept. will unlock kids from the car for free in Texas. Car temps get deadly hot in no time down here.

Wish we could go for a coffee. Tell Shelly "hi" and I miss her too. ;-)
