What's in the well will come up in the bucket.
I ran across this quote in the book I just finished, The Well-Versed Family by Caroline Boykin -- a book about scripture memory w/ your kids. (Good read.)
And now I'm thinking.
Hard.
And I'm wondering... what IS REALLY in the well of my kids' hearts? Have I helped them dig it deep in the Word of God? Is there a good source of living water there? Am I teaching them to really hide the word of God in their hearts and draw on Him when they thirst for the next "thing?"
Or is it only full of video games, basketball and the endless "what's for dinner tonight" question?
What's in the well will come up in the bucket.
I consider their "buckets." There is some water, yes. But it's not as fresh as I like. Not as cold and satisfying as it could be. It can go deeper, I know. I am in charge of those wells right now. It's up to me to make sure they are maintained, at least for now. My time with them is short.
What is in the well will come up in the bucket.
Those wells are going to get a gentle remodel this year. They will thank me for it later. 2010 is going to be a year of digging. And y'all, we're going deep.
Who's with me?

Me.
Me, too.
This has been the cry of my heart as of late.
