I can look back and see that everything my kids have done - even if, as a parent, it was painful to watch - shaped them into the well-rounded individuals that they have become. Can you imagine the agony of watching your child work for weeks to try out for cheerleading competition? I, as the resident fearful mother, do not. Because my beat-them-up mentality will then go from the parents to include the children.
